What I work at

I’ve been lecturing in the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology since January 2008. Prior to that, I gained 11 years work experience in the construction sector, working as a Land Surveyor and Site Engineer on various projects in Ireland and the UK. Given my industry background, it is no surprise that the subjects I now lecture relate to the Civil Engineering and Building Construction. The modules I work on include CAD, Surveying, Environmental Management and Advanced Civil Engineering Software.

In addition to the day-to-day duties involved in lecturing, I have taken on extra roles in my workplace. These include:

  • Programme Chair for Civil Engineering
  • Academic Co-ordinator of Peer Assisted Study Sessions
  • Social network manager for Civil Engineering accounts
  • Digital Open Badge workshop developer and host
  • Course contact for external Civil Engineering enquiries
  • Member of Academic Council
  • Dissertation Supervisor
